What? Bangkok’s beautiful nature? If you come to Bangkok, you might feel like you’re stuck in a concrete jungle – too many cars, too much concrete and not enough green.
Yet, there are still plenty of places where you feel like in a tropical wilderness.
And sometimes all it takes to look left or right when you’re walking on some busy road – because you will often come across pockets of green where something surprisingly beautiful waits to be discovered – like this lotus flower and her little red friend…
And if you visit the popular Lumphini park in downtown Bangkok, you’ll come across some big and beautiful turtles.
And sometimes all it takes is walking down a random street and looking twice at some of these notorious cracks in the road – because you never know what might be living in there.
Monitor lizards are in fact quite common encounters in Bangkok, not just in the parks but all over the place, partly because the extensive network of drainage pipes makes for a very nice habitat for these creatures.
If you take a book and lay down near the water at Lumphini park, chances are you’ll get to see at least one of them moving around.
If you’re wondering what these monitor lizards eat… well, among other things, they eat squirrels…
… and birds…
… and many other things, from fish, to chicken, to dogs and all kinds of wildlife.
There are plenty of beautiful tropical flowers and plants growing in different parts of Bangkok too.
And then there are plenty of papaya trees – the fruits often get harvested while still green in order to make the famous somtam papaya salad.
Bananas also grow abundantly in Bangkok, in fact, we do have several banana trees in our own garden.
And then there’s plenty of green and impressive trees.
As beautiful as these Banyan trees are, Thai people do not like to have them near their houses, they believe that spirits often inhabit these trees.
There are also plenty of butterflies in Bangkok.
So if you feel the need to escape the shopping malls and concrete roads but don’t have enough time for a full day trip – there are still plenty of green spaces in Bangkok where you can recharge your batteries and enjoy the beauty of mother nature.
And of course – lotus flowers…
