If you’ve already had your share of Bangkok but don’t want to travel so far, here’s a thing you could do tomorrow: visit the the Phra Samut Chedi Temple Fair (งานนมัสการองค์พระสมุทรเจดีย์) in Samut Prakan, a province south of Bangkok.
Phra Samut Chedi is a pagoda, and on the occasion of this festival local people parade a large red cloth around which then finally gets wrapped around the pagoda.
This is an yearly event that’s for locals and not many tourists come here. It’s probably the largest event of Samut Prakan and it’s always a spectacle with plenty of food and music, games, and lots of things to buy and sell, including clothing (although keep in mind the clothes sold here come mainly in Thai-size). You can come in the evening and stroll around when the sun is already gone and it’s not so hot.
It’s best to come here with a private tour guide who can show you around, because you’ll probably see many things which aren’t familiar to you and you’ll have a thousand questions – good to have someone who can answer them to you 🙂
